Since I had so much fun last month I decided to continue the theme of suggesting movies to enjoy for the holidays.  Now usually when you think of Thanksgiving you think of turkeys and that of course makes one think of movies so bad you laugh at them.  But I thought I would go instead with odd horror comedies that I like.  For my first suggestion I thought I would go with the cult classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!

Released in the late seventies it is a low budget spoof of fifties giant monster on the loose and James Bond secret agent films.  The plot involves tomatoes mutating and eating people.  The government calls in retired super agent Mason Dixon to head up a crack team of experts to discover the cause and put a stop to it.  After a series of hair raising, and hilarious, adventures Dixon discovers the man who is behind the attacks and planning to take over the world is a;so the one man he never suspected.

Many people consider this a God awful film, but I find I enjoy it for the out and out silliness.  Some of my favorite jokes include an assassination attempt where everyone around the target gets shot while the intended victim remains oblivious, the Japanese scientist who sounds like he’s dubbed, the master of disguise who shows up as a black Hitler (truly a sight to see), the hero telling the villain he doesn’t have it in him to kill a person himself and the villain thinking it over and then shooting the pizza delivery boy as a test, the meeting in the the extremely small conference room with the extremely large conference table, and the master of disguise infiltrating the tomatoes and giving himself away when he asks for ketchup during a meal.

Okay so it isn’t great art, but it is consistently funny, and the commentary track by the film makers is full of amusing stories as well.  Plus you get a great cameo by Jack Riley.
