I remember as a kid in the early 70s watching Humphrey Bogart movies from the late 40s and thinking they were old classics even though they were no older back then than "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is today. I think so much changed during the 50s and 60s, that our parents' world seemed much farther away from us than the 80s seem to us now. I know the fact that we lived through the 80s makes a difference, but I still don't think the 80s look all that drastically different from today; at least not in the same way that the 40s looked compared to the 70s.
