I didn’t watch the Oscars last week, spent the time watching reruns of CSI: Miami, and I hate David Caruso.  Seeing the list of winners I saw that i didn’t miss anything.  Everything that was expexted to win, did.  Not exactly making for an exciting evening of award show viewing.  Plus the thought of watching Wolverine doing a Broadway song and dance routine is just too depressing to contemplate for me (not that I have anything against song and dance men, like say Gregory Hines or James Cagney for instance).  The most interesting thing about the broadcast was that instead of having the Best Supporting Actor Award in it’s usual early time slot, it was moved to later in an attempt to keep viewers watching to see that Heath Ledger won.  Unfortunately most of the films were not films the majority of movie goers went to see, or cared about. Was Slumdog Millionaire really the best film of the year?  Was it better than The Dark Knight or Appaloosa?  Matter of opinion perhaps, but to get back to the broadcast I also see that Jerry Lewis has joined the ranks of Alfred Hitchcock,  Charlie Chaplin and Peter O’Toole; the Academy gave him an honorary award for his body of work.  I don’t know about anyone else, but those awards always seemed a little condescending to me, like a pat on the head for being good, not good enough for an actual Oscar of course, but here’s a consolation prize, now go away.  But enough ranting about a show I didn’t watch (talk about irony), things are looking up, after all Watchmen is less than a week away.  Whoo hoo!
