With the HD DVD format wars all but over, I was wonder about something. Is there a point in manufacturing a portable BluRay DVD player? The whole point of HD is to get movie theater quality picture and sound on your home theater TV. But when the screen is only between 7 and 10 inches, is there going to be any noticeable increase in quality? And what exactly does this mean for the portable DVD market? Personally I’m not all that blown away by HD DVD, or TV for that matter. I really don’t need to see every nuance of expression on Donald Pleasence face in Halloween or all the little intricate bits in the background of Blade Runner. And is there a market for old films? Are Casablanca and Gone With the Wind even viable HD products? Guess we will just have to wait and see.
